Community Spotlight: Osmosis

Community Spotlight: Osmosis

Commonwealth is excited to spotlight one of our top communities: Osmosis. Osmosis allows market participants to customize swap fees, multi-token liquidity pools, and more, offering a decentralized options market for the Cosmos ecosystem, and we’re excited to see Osmosis continue to use our platform as they grow.

Osmosis: The Interchain AMM

Osmosis is an automated market maker (AMM) for interchain assets that allows for the creation and management of a non-custodial, self-balancing, interchain token index. Osmosis aims to provide the best-in-class tools that extend the use of AMMs within the Cosmos ecosystem. While most major AMMs limit the changeable parameters of liquidity pools, Osmosis allows market participants to self-identify opportunities and react by adjusting the various parameters.

As the DeFi market grows in size, it’s becoming apparent that liquidity pools need to react to market conditions. Osmosis recognizes that the optimal swap fee for an AMM trade may vary day-to-day, and has created a system where the optimal equilibrium between fee and liquidity can be reached through autonomous experiments. This extends the market for AMMs and bonding curves beyond simple token swaps with experimental use-cases and allows the market to self-discover the optimal value of each adjustable parameter.

Commonwealth: The All-In-One DAO Platform

Since Commonwealth accommodates various governance processes, crypto projects don’t need to be managed across multiple platforms, like Discord and Telegram, once they create a forum on our website. Since our inception more than two years ago, we’ve become the all-in-one governance tool and crypto-native community used by many of the top DeFi projects to discuss, vote on, and fund their initiatives. This is because we’re the first project to provide an all-in-one platform for decentralized governance, community discussions, treasury management, and more.

Osmosis’ community operations have been fundamentally improved on Commonwealth. Everything from discussions to crowdfunding to executing proposals happens on our platform, giving them more efficient community management. With more functionality on a streamlined system, their governance process has become seamless.

Participate in the Osmosis Commonwealth Forum

The Osmosis platform on Commonwealth was built custom for their ecosystem and includes the following capabilities:

  • Crypto-Native Token Forum: The Osmosis community on Commonwealth comes with full forum capabilities including threaded discussions, upvotes, user profiles, and more.
  • On-Chain Governance: The Osmosis community is able to discuss, vote on, and execute governance proposals all on-chain and with complete transparency through their custom Commonwealth forum.

The Osmosis Commonwealth forum is now live and actively used by the Osmosis community. Users are encouraged to participate in the ongoing discussions on their new platform.

Recent discussions and proposals include:

  • A proposal to support the addition of a flat staking reward for validators in order to cause a higher APR for lower-ranked validators. This proposal would also reallocate the required $OSMO for this flat staking reward from the overall pot of daily staking rewards. The community proposed this initiative in order to promote the decentralization of the blockchain, a key part of the project that ensures no one party (or small group) has excessive influence over the security of the chain or governance decisions. This proposal passed.
  • A proposal to increase the required voting quorum for a proposal to pass from 20% to 40%, add a voting option of “present” to allow members to be included in the quorum even if they do not wish to cast a vote, and add a minimum requirement that at least 50% of votes cast be “yes” for a proposal pass. Some community members believe that while the current voting system worked in the early days of Osmosis, it has become less sustainable as the community has grown and allowed proposals to pass with a very small number of supporting votes. This proposal is still under consideration, though most community members are in support of this proposal if minor adjustments are made before the final draft.
