Regen Network Launches Governance Platform on Commonwealth

Regen Network is partnering with the team at Commonwealth to use our all-in-one governance platform. We’re particularly excited about their ecological initiative to remove carbon and restore natural grassland ecosystems, and are looking forward to how they use our platform to discuss, vote on, and fund their initiatives.

Regen: Aligning Economics with Ecology to Drive Regenerative Land Management

Regen Registry allows land stewards to sell their ecosystem services directly to buyers around the world. While traditional economic models incentivize the degradation of land through practices such as deforestation, Regen Network incentivizes the opposite: regenerative land use. Land stewards get paid for their ecological practices and buyers purchase credits to sponsor them. With this system, Regen Network helps restore ecosystems and reverses climate change.

Regen Network is open source first, and they welcome engagement from software developers working in blockchain, agricultural technology, or climate solutions to get involved in their protocol design. Commonwealth: Where Decentralized Communities Come to Grow

Commonwealth is the governance tool and crypto-native community used by many of the top DeFi projects to discuss, vote on, and fund their initiatives. We accommodate the entire governance process so projects don’t need to be managed across separate community platforms like Discord and Telegram. This means decentralized governance, community discussions, treasury management, and more happens all on Commonwealth.

With Regen Network moving to Commonwealth, the organization’s decentralized community operations are fundamentally improved. Their governance process is now seamless: everything from discussions to crowdfunding to executing proposals can happen in one place, giving them more functionality on a streamlined system.

Regen’s platform on Commonwealth was built custom for their ecosystem and includes the following capabilities:

  • Crypto-Native Token Forum: The Regen Network community on Commonwealth comes with full forum capabilities including threaded discussions, upvotes, user profiles, and more.
  • On-Chain Governance: The Regen Network community will be able to discuss, vote, and execute on governance proposals all on-chain through the new Commonwealth forum with complete transparency.

Participate in Regen Network’s Commonwealth Forum

The Regen Commonwealth forum will be live on Friday, January 21. After launch, users are encouraged to participate in the ongoing discussions on their new platform imported from Discourse.

The latest discussions and proposals include:

  • A parameter change proposal to add a multisig address for Regen Registry to the list of allowed credit class creators. The Regen Network Development staff are applying on behalf of Regen Registry, which they envision will become the first community governed registry program. This proposal passed in December 2021.
  • Conduct an emergency upgrade to avoid any further potential issues with IBC client expiry. Regen successfully updated to Regen Ledger v2, but a bug in the integration caused IBC transfers to stop going through. The upgrade prevents funds from getting stuck in expired IBC channels. This proposal passed in November 2021.
